Synonymous with jazz on the First Coast, Artist in Residence and professor of guitar at Jacksonville University, Gary Starling has inspired and broadened the horizons of hundreds of aspiring musicians and has played with performers such as Bob Hope, Diahann Carroll, Rita Moreno and Skitch Henderson. He has appeared with the Jacksonville Symphony Pops Orchestra and with jazz artists Eddie Harris, Nat Adderley, Joshua Breakstone, Carla White, Jim Snidero, and numerous other bands.

The group can be tailored to your event utilizing the area's best
musicians. Guitar, upright bass and drums form the core jazz trio. The quartet adds vocalist/jazz violinist Rebecca Zapen or for an instrumental quartet, quintet or larger, saxophone, trumpet, or keyboard may be added. Custom configured bands are also possible upon request. In addition, solo guitar or duos are available for smaller settings. The bands style ranges from jazz and pop standards, swing, bossa nova and samba, to contemporary funky jazz. The Gary Starling Group has made multiple appearances at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. Some other past engagements include: Hilton Head Jazz Society, Pleasure Island at Disney World, Gainesville Friends of Jazz and Blues, The Cloister Hotel At Sea Island, Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Amelia Island Plantation, World Golf Village, White Oak Plantation, Epping Forest Yacht Club, Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island, Miami Beach Convention Center, University Club, River Club, Sawgrass Club, Ponte Vedra Inn, The Brick, Simon's Wine Bar, San Sebastian Winery, Cummer Ball, Ragtime Tavern, Jacksonville Landing, and many more venues.
